Composer, Performer and Film Score Arranger

A Dublin native, Colm Mac Con Iomaire is a composer, performer and film-score arranger. Colm’s father came from the Connemara Gaeltacht and Colm’s family were Irish speakers living in Dublin. On his mother’s side there was classical instrumental music and as Colm learned to play as a very young child, he found himself in a place of naturally occurring opposites Irish and English (language), rural and urban, classical and traditional, old and new and this manifested itself through his music.

In our conversation we discussed Colm’s early school life as a musician, being involved in The Frames and what impacts his creative process. We talked about the importance of being able to recognise and nurture talents in young people.  Throughout the podcast Colm shares some of the ways he is inspired to create and develop his musical ideas.
