Tom Sullivan

Actor and Film Director

Tom Sullivan has worked as an actor for over fifteen years and began writing and directing in 2010. Since then he has directed five films, three of which he wrote. Asal (2011) and Mechanic (2013), have one the Tiernan Mc Bride award for best live action short at the Galway film festival. His latest film Arracht has won multiple awards.

Q. Tom talks a lot about the influence of place when creating stories. What have been some places that influenced you or sparked your own creativity? 

Q. “You don’t have to be an inspired genius to be a writer.” Tom talks about everyone’s ability to write if they want to do it and are passionate about it. Has this been your experience of writing or any other hobby? 

Q. What is a recent movie you watched and loved? What images does this film conjure for you and what was it about the plot that was so captivating.  

Q. Tom talks about basing characters’ current actions as adults on what they might have been like a child/teenager. What is your approach to creating character?
