About the artist

Rita Duffy was born in Belfast in 1959 and was educated at the University of Ulster studying Art & Design and then Fine Art. Her subject matter is mainly autobiographical in terms of Irish identity and politics, both of which are deeply personal.

She was made an Honorary Member of the Royal Society of Ulster Architects as a result of the growth of her work. She was also elected an associate of Goldsmiths College in London and is currently working on a project between Argentina and Northern Ireland, which concerns the role of art in post conflict societies. Her projects are constantly involving both international subjects and also those close to home in Belfast.
